What happened

In June 2026, federal agents posted near a sensitive national security site in the western United States watched a dark triangular object rise above a ridgeline a few miles to the west, against the glow of the sky just after sunset. A colleague stationed nearby had called their attention to it. They described a matte black, non-reflective delta shape roughly 9 to 15 feet across, with no lights or visible engine. It climbed straight up a few hundred feet without tilting or wobbling, stopped and hung there for about 20 seconds, then left at a speed they compared to a fighter jet and dropped toward a canyon. Through a handheld thermal monocular it looked warmer than the background but showed no exhaust, and they heard nothing at all. A search of the canyon the next morning found no debris, scarring or damaged plants. The agents' signed FBI statement (FBI-UAP-D043) and AARO's memorandum of its debrief (DOW-UAP-D176) describe the same sighting and were published in PURSUE Release 07 on 23 October 2026.

The official explanation

No official explanation has been given. The obvious conventional candidate is a drone: one agent likened it to a delta-wing unmanned aircraft, and IBTimes reports that the FBI document refers to it as an unmanned aerial system, a label it says was not confirmed. No video, photograph or instrumented track exists, so every size, distance and speed is a human estimate made at dusk. The two documents also disagree on duration, about three seconds in the FBI account versus more than thirty in AARO's memo. The nine illustrations in the FBI file are reconstructions made by placing a black shape on a photo of the ridge, not imagery of the object. This case is separate from the black triangle with red corner lights reported near Colorado Springs in October 2023 (FBI-UAP-D031, Release 05).

The anomalous case

The witnesses were trained federal agents guarding a protected site, and Axios reports that two of them had long operational experience and familiarity with drones, yet they could not match the object to any aircraft. By their account it rose vertically without tilting, stopped dead, hovered, then accelerated to fighter-jet speed in complete silence, warm on a thermal scope but with no visible exhaust. Axios reported their estimate that it covered about 1.5 miles in roughly three seconds, a pace that works out to around 1,800 mph from a hover. CBS News reported that AARO judged the case worth further investigation because its reported shape and movement line up closely with other reported incidents in the western United States, a series that includes the 2023 orbs-launching-orbs event documented by six agents. Whether it was a novel foreign platform, a classified US design or something stranger, a silent craft performing like this over a sensitive facility is exactly what the UAP program exists to explain.

The strongest argument that this was something genuinely unknown or classified, with each claim attributed to the person who made it.
