What happened

On 9 September 2025 the House Oversight Committee's Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, chaired by Representative Anna Paulina Luna, held its first UAP hearing, 'Restoring Public Trust Through UAP Transparency and Whistleblower Protection.' Air Force veteran Jeffrey Nuccetelli described repeated incursions near Vandenberg between 2003 and 2005 by huge objects he likened to flying buildings. Dylan Borland, another Air Force veteran, described a large triangular craft at Langley Air Force Base in 2012 and years of alleged reprisals. In what DefenseScoop called a first, an active-duty Navy sailor, Senior Chief Alexandro Wiggins, testified that on 15 February 2023 aboard USS Jackson off southern California he saw a glowing Tic Tac shaped object rise from the ocean, join three others, and vanish with near-instantaneous acceleration, tracked on multiple sensors. Representative Eric Burlison played a video he said showed an MQ-9 drone off Yemen on 30 October 2024 tracking an orb that a Hellfire missile struck without stopping it. Journalist George Knapp said it bounced off.

The official explanation

The testimony consisted of personal accounts and a video of unverified provenance shown by a member of Congress; no Pentagon witness appeared to respond, and the Defense Department did not publicly authenticate or analyze the Yemen clip at the hearing. Skeptics argue that infrared footage of a fast-moving object and a missile is easily misread, and that without full sensor data and chain of custody such videos cannot establish anything extraordinary. Minority witness Joe Spielberger focused on whistleblower process rather than the phenomena.

The anomalous case

The hearing put an active-duty senior chief petty officer under oath describing a multi-sensor event: an object leaving the ocean, linking with three others, and departing with no sonic boom, exhaust or visible control surfaces, while radar tracks dropped. That is a trans-medium event of the kind AARO's own charter anticipates. Two veterans gave independent accounts of large craft at two different bases. Then a congressman showed what he said was military drone video of a Hellfire missile striking an orb, with the object continuing on its path. If authentic, that footage would describe an object surviving a direct hit from a weapon designed to destroy armored vehicles. Lawmakers on the panel said similar videos sit on servers they have not been allowed to see.

The strongest argument that this was something genuinely unknown or classified, with each claim attributed to the person who made it.
