What happened

Among the 71 files in PURSUE Release 06, published on 18 September 2026, four came from a local law enforcement agency in Colorado rather than from the Department of War. They are cellphone videos recorded in October 2023 and submitted by an officer who described a silent object showing flashing red, blue and green lights. The clips are filed under the local-law-enforcement prefix as LLE-UAP-PR001 to LLE-UAP-PR004, with a transcript of the officer's report (LLE-UAP-D001), and News 9 describes them as partly blurred. The Pentagon labelled them unresolved, which it says means there was not enough information for a firm identification. They are not the only October 2023 Colorado report in the archive: Release 05 includes FBI material on a black triangular craft with a red light at each corner seen near a military base in Colorado Springs that month (catalogued by EarthSky as FBI-UAP-D031).

The official explanation

AARO cautioned that a phone camera's autofocus and digital processing can distort the apparent shape and movement of a distant light, which can make an ordinary source look strange on video. Flashing red, green and white or blue lights are standard on aircraft and on many drones, and a distant aircraft can easily seem silent. The Pentagon stresses that an unresolved label reflects missing data, not evidence of anything extraordinary.

The anomalous case

A police officer thought the sighting serious enough to film and formally report, and described the object as silent, which argues against a nearby helicopter or low aircraft. The clips were then passed up to the Pentagon's UAP effort and released nationally rather than dismissed. They also sit inside a cluster: in the same month the FBI recorded a report of a black triangle with red corner lights near a Colorado Springs military base, and in 2022 five soldiers at Fort Carson reported a shimmering object over Cheyenne Mountain. Repeated, independent reports of silent lit objects near Colorado's military installations are the kind of pattern AARO has said it wants to examine with multi-sensor data across western US cases.

The strongest argument that this was something genuinely unknown or classified, with each claim attributed to the person who made it.
